Quick Start Guide: Academic CV PDF

What’s Been Created

I’ve created a separate academic CV document that generates a professional PDF using standard LaTeX templates. Here’s what you have:

πŸ“„ Files Created

  1. cv-pdf.qmd - The source document for your academic CV PDF
  2. pdfs/cv-peter-courtney.pdf - The generated PDF (ready to use!)
  3. generate-cv-pdf.sh - Convenient script to regenerate the PDF
  4. README.md - Detailed documentation
  5. CV-QUICK-START.md - This quick reference guide

✨ Features

Your academic CV PDF includes:

  • βœ… Professional academic layout with clean typography
  • βœ… Libertine font (commonly used in academic publications)
  • βœ… A4 paper format with appropriate margins
  • βœ… Colour-coded section headers (subtle blue accent)
  • βœ… Right-aligned dates for a polished look
  • βœ… All your current CV content properly formatted

πŸš€ How to Use

Option 1: Using the Script (Easiest)

From the cv directory, simply run:

./generate-cv-pdf.sh

Option 2: Manual Command

cd cv
quarto render cv-pdf.qmd
cp ../_site/cv/cv-pdf.pdf pdfs/cv-peter-courtney.pdf

πŸ“ Updating Your CV

  1. Edit the content in cv-pdf.qmd
  2. Regenerate the PDF using either option above
  3. Keep both versions in sync: Remember to update both cv.qmd (HTML) and cv-pdf.qmd (PDF) when making changes

🎨 Customisation Options

Want to change the appearance? Edit these settings in cv-pdf.qmd:

geometry:
  - margin=2cm # Change margins
fontsize: 11pt # Try 10pt, 11pt, or 12pt

Or change the colour:

\definecolor{myblue}{HTML}{5E81AC} # Change hex colour code

πŸ“ File Location

Your PDF is saved at:

cv/pdfs/cv-peter-courtney.pdf

You can now use this PDF for: - Academic job applications - Grant applications
- Conference submissions - Professional networking - Printing for meetings

❓ Need Help?

See README.md for more detailed instructions and customisation options.

Note: The PDF version is separate from your website CV (cv.qmd). This gives you flexibility to have a web-friendly version and a traditional academic PDF version.
